In 2010, two moms from Temecula traveled with a mission team from Nightlight Christian Adoptions to Kampala, Uganda to serve at Tender Hearts Babies Home. While there, the team filled the shelves with clothes, blankets, medicine and toys. We also had the privilege of playing with the babies residing at the home.
One of those babies was Vivian. She was rescued out of very difficult circumstances and had a myriad of ailments, including malnutrition, when she arrived at Tender Hearts. Ken, Cathy and the staff at Tender Hearts nursed her back to health; however, she contracted malaria and then meningitis. Her little body was unable to fight off the meningitis and in the spring of 2011, Vivian's passed away. It is in her memory that Vivian's Hope was formed and operates as a volunteer ministry under Nightlight Christian Adoptions.
The mission of Vivian's Hope is to raise the funds necessary to provide for the medical needs of the babies residing at Tender Hearts Babies Home located outside Kampala, Uganda. Since 2011, Vivian's Hope has provided for basic medical care such as immunizations, general check ups and medication. On occasion, a baby is taken into Tender Hearts who needs extra special medical attention or surgery. Vivian's Hope has been able to provide for those needs as well.
2015 has been an exciting year for us as Vivian's Hope was able to provide the funds to open Vivian's Memorial Clinic on the premises of the babies home! Having the clinic on-site will negate the need to take babies who need medical attention on the long trek into town for care. It is our hope that in the future the clinic will also be able to serve the needs of the community in which the home and clinic are located.
